The award was presented at O’Reilly’s national sales conference in Dallas.
MEMA members choose honorees periodically for selfless contribution to the automotive industry, according to a news release.
“David O’Reilly has built his family business into one of the most successful publicly held auto parts store chains. Its business model is the one which successfully competes in the do-it-yourself and do-it-for-me markets,” said MEMA President and CEO Bob McKenna in the release. “O’Reilly has one of the most consistent earnings growth track records in the industry, thanks to David’s leadership.”
McKenna added that O’Reilly’s business ethics and involvement in industry associations also made him an ideal candidate for the award.
O’Reilly Auto Parts began in 1957 with one store in Springfield and now has 1,830 stores in 26 states. (See this week’s cover story about the company’s efforts to blanket the United States.)
O’Reilly joined the family business in 1972. He retired as president and CEO in 2005 and became chairman of the board.[[In-content Ad]]
