Last edited 3:41 p.m., June 16, 2014During a presentation last week at Missouri State University's Darr Agricultural Center, the Darr Family Foundation presented grants to 25 nonprofits.
In all, the foundation doled out over $192,000 in funding, according to a news release.
Grants awarded:
- $20,000: Children's Smile Center, to fund a capital campaign for its Aurora clinic;
- $16,403: Lighthouse Child and Family Development Center, for its Quality Initiatives project;
- $12,803: Isabel's House, for its medical program;
- $12,000: Junior Achievement in Southwest Missouri, for its Whole School initiatives;
- $11,367: Community Partnership of the Ozarks, for its school readiness programming;
- $10,000: Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, for its summer outreach program, Foundation for Springfield Public Schools, for its health science academy, The Kitchen Inc., for its Rare Breed mental health program, SRO Lyric Theater, for its education outreach tour, Ozarks Technical Community College Foundation, for its Middle College mentorship partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters;
- $9,000: Child Advocacy Center, for forensic interviews;
- $7,500: The Friends of Operation Us, for The Hatching Project, and Pregnancy Care Center, for a healthy relationships program
- $5,000: Boys & Girls Club of the Ozarks, for its Lego Robotics initiatives, Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri (Joplin), for kitchen help for its Kids Cafe, The Hamels Foundation, for its Academy of Exploration, LifeHouse Crisis Maternity Home, for transportation and program fees, Ozarks Counseling Center, for children's counseling services, and The Victim Center, for children's services;
- $3,100: Ozarks Literacy Council, for its pre-literacy program;
- $2,500: Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks, for its Lunch Buddies program, and Diaper Bank of the Ozarks, for additional agency partnerships,
- $2,250: The Arc of the Ozarks, for music therapy; and
- $1,000: Champion Athletes of the Ozarks, for its Functional Word and Living series.
