Other than getting started a little earlier, Dana Montgomery wouldn’t change a thing about her career.

“If I had known that I would be in banking, I would have started working in a bank during college,” said Montgomery. “There is a lot to be said for starting with the basics to build a firm foundation.”

After working as a special events manager for Boys & Girls Town of Missouri, Montgomery began her banking career in 2004 with UMB Bank as a treasury management officer.

In July 2005, Montgomery took her current position as assistant vice president and small business banking specialist at Commerce Bank, where she offers customized lending, credit and money management solutions for small-business owners and operators, and is responsible for furthering the bank’s small-business programs.

When faced with difficult career decisions, she has relied on the advice of family and friends.

“My neighbors, Dennis and Evie, both 77 years old, are full of advice and are always ready to discuss life over a glass of red wine,” Montgomery said. “Dennis gives advice in black and white, and Evie softens it with a stroke of tenderness. They draw wisdom from their experiences in business relationships and life.”

While Montgomery’s job at Commerce keeps her busy, she also is involved in a variety of area organizations. She serves on committees for Rock’n Ribs, Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way of the Ozarks, and Rotaract of Springfield.

She’s also on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Montgomery also is a member of Leadership Springfield Class XXI, and is involved with Junior League of Springfield, Rotary District 6080 Leadership Council, Missouri Youth in Government and Springfield Women in Support of Success.
