An organization started by Springfieldian Brad Pitt to help rebuild homes in New Orleans is wrapping up its $14.1 million transformation of a Kansas City elementary school with contractors Dalmark Development Group, redevelopers of the Heer’s building in downtown Springfield.
Pitt’s Make It Right organization is planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony this weekend with Dalmark for a 50-unit affordable housing complex dubbed Bancroft School Apartments in the Manheim Park neighborhood in Kansas City, according to KCTV.
Make It Right, which was launched to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, partnered with Dalmark and Neighborhood Housing Services of Kansas City to remodel the former Bancroft Elementary School, which sat vacant for 13 years. The apartments, which were built to achieve a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design-Platinum designation, also feature a gymnasium, technology lab, mobile medical clinic and community gardens.
