NuVox Communications is a fully integrated communications company providing business solutions for its customers in the Midwest and Southeast. A robust network, vast product set, experienced management team and knowledgeable sales force enable NuVox to serve business customers – from the small business with just a few lines, to very large businesses requiring everything from voice and data, to Internet security and private networking. NuVox provides communications services to more than 38,000 customers in 48 markets in 16 states with more than 600,000 access lines in service. In the Springfield area, we service more than 800 business clients and have been providing service for five and a half years.

Specifically what is your job?

I am a regional vice president responsible for sales productivity in nine cities. My cities include Springfield and St. Louis in Missouri; Indianapolis; Louisville and Lexington in Kentucky; and Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus and Akron in Ohio. I have become very familiar with the Springfield-Branson Regional Airport and routinely travel to these cities.

How did you arrive in this position?

I am one of 13 people who accepted a general manager role during the summer of 1999 when this was a startup company. I was initially only responsible for the Springfield operations, and as the size of the company has increased to 46 cities, my responsibilities have evolved to a regional role.

What are some of NuVox’s newest products?

NuVox’s signature product offering, FLEXLinx, delivers a bundle of services with the flexibility to precisely meet the needs of a business. Customers may select any combination of local, long distance, dedicated high-speed Internet access, and private networking along with a full suite of enhanced services to capitalize on new business opportunities.

With LANLock, NuVox customers have the capability to monitor the activity on their network such as storage space, bandwidth utilization, and employee activity. With LANLock, customers can select from NuVox’s basic or monitored firewall services and scale this service to meet their individual business’ requirements.

SpamLess is a customer-controlled junk e-mail filter that allows NuVox customers to reduce unwanted e-mail. Designed to filter unwanted junk mail and advertisements before it hits in-boxes, SpamLess provides anti-virus scanning to prevent computer and system breakdowns that are often associated with e-mail and, specifically, spam.

Tell us about the best and the most challenging parts of your job.

My travel schedule is the most challenging, as I get to juggle time zone differences and airplanes while still trying to attend meetings and various conference calls on time. The best part of my job in a strange way is what the travel provides. While I do not enjoy the time away from my family, I do value the opportunity to work and learn with people in other cities.

Tell us about your family and your spare-time interests.

I have been married to my lovely wife Ronda for eight years. My children are Lewis, 3; Jackson, 5; Hannah, 7; and Whitney, 17. My spare-time interest is really my family, and I view this time as precious and my priority when I am not working. My travel schedule has actually helped me put this into perspective, as I spend most of my spare time with my wife and children. I do manage to do a little cycling in the early morning hours of the spring and summer months.
