Daily Mail to pay first lady $2.9M settlement

The Daily Mail agreed to pay Melania Trump $2.9 million in damages and costs to settle a lawsuit.

The first lady of the United States accused the publisher of making false claims about her work as a professional model. The publisher put out an article that falsely alleged the first lady once worked for an escort service.

"We accept that these allegations about Mrs. Trump are not true and we retract and withdraw them. We apologize to Mrs. Trump for any distress that our publication caused her," the Daily Mail and Mail Online said in a statement.
