Daddy’s Coffee & Sweets LLC
A longtime photographer made a career shift with the July 7 opening of Daddy’s Coffee & Sweets LLC. The mobile coffee business is owned by Shannon Alexander, who said startup costs were roughly $30,000, adding he has two baristas on staff in addition to himself. He has owned Shannon Alexander Photography for about 20 years but said maintaining that is probably not in the plans. The coffee trailer will primarily be in the parking lot of Retro Discount City, near the intersection of North Glenstone Avenue and East Sunshine Street. Alexander said he worked out an agreement with Mike Klemm of Market Street Liquidation LLC for undisclosed terms to utilize a portion of the lot. The menu for Daddy’s Coffee & Sweets includes a mix of hot and cold drinks, including espressos, frappes, lattes, loose leaf and iced tea, and Italian soda. It also features cinnamon rolls locally made by Breadsmith, while Battlefield-based Copper Canyon Coffee Roasters supplies coffee beans and syrups, Alexander said. Drink prices generally range $2.30-$6.80.

PupTaxi
Drew Bradley is the founder of PupTaxi, a Springfield-based company that provides vehicle transportation for dogs. Launched June 17 with the help of investors, Bradley said the first vehicles have been purchased and outfitted to transport dogs with rides booked via its website. A mobile app is in the final testing stages, he said. The company has an air-conditioned shuttle van to transport up to four dogs in airline-grade kennels. A 2018 Ford Focus has also been modified to create a padded, climate-controlled cabin. Bradley said the service can be booked to safely transport dogs of any size – they just can’t be aggressive – to veterinary and grooming appointments, daycare services and boarding facilities. The minimum fare is $25 plus mileage. Rides can be booked within a 50-mile radius of Springfield. Bradley said startup costs were less than $20,000, and he is in the process of looking for more drivers. He is the primary driver during the initial phase to ensure quality and make tweaks. Movino Winery
Paul and Jenna Folbre, a Bolivar couple with a common love of wine, launched Movino Winery on June 5. Tehe winery also includes event space on the 22-acre property the Folbres purchased in 2022 at 4681 S. 140th Road in Bolivar. Movino Winery is contained within a two-story, 10,000-square-foot building on the property. The lower level is used for winemaking and processing, while the upstairs has a tasting room, retail area and space to host community events. Paul Folbre said they have over 1,000 vines in the ground covering around an acre and a half across five different varietals, adding he and his wife own the venture via Missouri Wine Farm LLC. Wine by the bottle and glass are available at the winery, including chambourcin, vignoles and sweet red and white options. Sangria, wine slushies, beer and nonalcoholic beverages also are served. Declining to disclose startup costs, Folbre said he and his wife love the wine culture and wanted to spread that attraction to others in Polk County and the surrounding area.
