Springfield-based 3-D design consultancy and customized manufacturing technology firm D3 Technology has this month opened a new office and training center in the Dallas area.
President Kevin Schlack said the company, which serves as an equipment design consultant for manufacturers to aid in getting products to market, has had its eye on the Dallas market for years.
“We had identified Dallas as a market we wanted to expand into before the recession,” Schlack said. “We had been expanding pretty fast for the four or five years before, so the recession stalled that. Now that things are turning around, Dallas is a great market for manufacturing companies.”
Schlack said the Dallas office is the firm’s 10th location and Solution Executive John Michael was hired to run the space. Michael, who worked for the past seven years in the mortgage technology field, is working to grow business in the area and support existing accounts.
Schlack said notable clients for D3 include Paul Mueller Co., Boyd Aluminum, Custom Powder Systems, Tracker Marine and Bass Pro Shops. In all, he said the company serves more than 200 manufacturing clients within 100 miles of Springfield and Schlack feels opportunities abound in the Dallas metroplex.
“Tulsa [Okla.] and Kansas City have consistently been our top two markets. Dallas has three to four times the number of manufacturing companies in a 125-mile radius as either one of those markets do,” Schlack said, adding the firm’s research indicates those manufacturers are generally underserved by technology consultancies. “Texas has a lot of potential businesses, especially in manufacturing. There’s a lot of entrepreneurship and the oil industry funds a lot of manufacturing companies down there.”
He said the firm, which employs roughly 50, expects to have up to five full time employees in place at its Dallas office in the next two years.
