Cyber firm: Russian 'Methbot' scam defrauding digital advertisers

New York-based White Ops claims it's discovered a massive online scam employing automated web browsers to siphon millions of dollars of advertising per day away from U.S. media companies and brand-name advertisers.

The firm calls the operation "Methbot," referring to meth buried in the computer code facilitating the scam.

The company believes the scam originated in Russia and has caused fake views on as many as 300 million video ads per day and tricked advertisers to pay for views that were never seen by humans.
