CVB to award travel, tourism honors

The Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau will present its 2011 Salute to Travel and Tourism awards Feb. 17 at University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center. The CVB ceremony honors individuals and organizations that have made contributions to the area's travel and tourism industry, according to a CVB news release.

The awards:
  • The Pinnacle Award, given to individuals who have been active in the travel industry for several years and have made significant contributions to it, will be announced at the banquet.
  • The Ambassador Award will be presented to Bass Pro Fitness Festival. The award is given to individuals or organizations that generate a major economic impact for the area by working to encourage tourism or holding a convention or event in Springfield.
  • The Hospitality Award, presented to an attraction, lodging facility or restaurant that demonstrates outstanding hospitality to tourists, will be given to Cooper Tennis Complex.
  • The Spotlight Award will be given to Askinosie Chocolate. The award recognizes an individual, business or organization not typically considered part of the travel and tourism industry that made noteworthy contributions to advance it.
  • The Diplomat Award, given to a government official, organization or employee that has provide support to the Springfield area travel industry, will be awarded to the Missouri Department of Transportation.
  • Decade of Service awards, which recognize individuals who have volunteered for CVB for 10 years, will be given to Dean and Darlene McAnally, Mary Ellen White, JoAnn Wiksten, Jim and Beverly Wilson, Naomi Young, and Jerry and Judy Young.
The event will start at 6 p.m. with a reception, following by dinner and the awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Tickets, which are $50 apiece or $475 for a table of 10, can be purchased online.
