The Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau has named the recipients of its five annual awards, which will be presented at the 2009 Salute to Travel & Tourism banquet.
The event is at 6 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Doubletree Hotel, 2431 N. Glenstone Ave.
The CVB's Pinnacle Award will be given posthumously to Si Siman, founder of the Ozark Jubilee TV show that aired 1954-1960. The Pinnacle Award honors individuals who have made substantial contributions to the travel industry.
The Doubletree Hotel will receive the Hospitality Award, which is given to an attraction, lodging facility or restaurant that has demonstrated outstanding hospitality to travelers and promotes area tourism.
The Spotlight Award will be given to First Friday Art Walk. The award is presented to an individual, business or organization that's not usually considered part of the travel and tourism industry but has made noteworthy contributions to it.
Former Greene County Sheriff Jack Merritt will be given the Diplomat Award, which is presented to a government official, organization or employee who has significantly supported the travel industry.
The Ambassador Award will be given Springfield Public Schools. The honor is given to individuals or organizations that generated significant economic impact for the area by encouraging tourism or securing a major event in Springfield.
