CVB picks winners for annual tourism awards

Posted online
The Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau announced its selections for the 2015 Salute to Travel & Tourism Awards.

Winners will be honored during the organization’s annual banquet Feb. 19 at DoubleTree Hotel, according to a CVB newsletter released last week.

Randy Little, owner of PFI Western Wear, and the Ozarks Chapter of the American Truck Historic Society each will receive the CVB Ambassador Award. The honor is given to individuals or organizations who create economic development for the area by encouraging tourism or securing a major event.

Andy’s Frozen Custard was chosen to receive the Hospitality Award, recognizing attractions, lodging facilities or restaurants that provide above-average hospitality to the traveling public.

Given to a government official, organization or employee who has worked to support the Springfield area travel industry, the 2015 Diplomat Award will go to state Rep. Don Phillips, R-Kimberling City.

The CVB chose Assemblies of God for the Spotlight Award, which is given to an individual, business or organization not usually considered part of the travel and tourism industry but still has made noteworthy contributions to it.

The Springfield tourism organization is keeping its top award close to the vest. Given to individuals active in contributing to the area travel industry, the Pinnacle Award winner will be announced at the February event. The 2014 award went to J. Howard Fisk Limousines owner Howard Fisk.

The CVB began presenting travel and tourism awards in 2000.
