A customs dispute at the United States border with Canada is threatening the supply of fish used for products such as fish sticks and fillets.
After being caught in the United States, the Alaska pollock is transported to New Brunswick, Canada, near the border with Maine. The fish is then loaded onto rail cars to cross into the United States.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials allege shippers are violating the Jones Act, which requires that goods shipped between U.S. ports be transported on American-owned ships.
