Cubs win World Series for first time in 108 years

The Chicago Cubs last night shed themselves of the so-called "Curse of the Billy Goat" when the team ended a 108-year wait for a World Series title by beating the Cleveland Indians.

The Cubs took the final game 8-7 in 10 innings. Left fielder Ben Zobrist, who put the Cubs ahead in the 10th with an RBI double and who batted .357 in the series with two doubles and a triple, was named the most valuable player of the World Series.

The Cubs, who have not won a World Series since 1908, came back from a 3-1 deficit to win the best-of-seven baseball championship. That feat hasn't been accomplished since the Kansas City Royals made a comeback in 1985.
