CU purchases six acres from Comstock Trust

Posted online
City Utilities of Springfield last week entered into a contract to purchase six acres near McDaniel Lake for $220,000.

The land is owned by the Rolland Comstock Trust. Rolland Comstock, a Springfield lawyer known for his massive literary collection, died this summer at age 70 after being shot in his home.

The property, which CU officials say has cleared a Phase I environmental audit, is located across Farm Road 76 from McDaniel Lake, one of the city’s sources of drinking water.

“We are pleased to have this property under contract as we continue our daily efforts to provide safe, clean drinking water for CU customers,” Wade Stinson, CU associate general manager-operations, said in a CU news release.

CU’s Board of Public Utilities approved an option to purchase the real estate during closed session Dec. 18, according to the release. The Missouri Sunshine Law allows real estate matters to be considered in closed session but requires the record to be released when the contract becomes effective.
