CU manager search narrows to a handful

Posted online
On March 8, members of the City Utilities General Manager Search Committee said a final list of candidates had been selected to replace John Twitty, who is set to retire June 10.

Although members of the committee approved a motion not to discuss details of the finalists, including the number of candidates, both CU public board member Dan Scott and a member of the human resources team referred to a list of six candidates.

The group voted unanimously to conduct interviews in person, and several members said they would draw from questions and comments gathered in an online survey and from the community advisory group. Results of the survey, which fielded 52 responses, are available at

“We feel very good about the group (of finalists) we’ve got,” said GM Search Committee Chairman Tom Rankin of Sperry Van Ness/Rankin Group. Rankin said the finalists included both internal and external candidates, but he declined to say how many of each. He said interviews likely would take place in early April.

The committee unanimously approved a motion to contact the candidates to see if they are ready to have their names released to the public.

In a March 4 meeting, Community Advisory Group Chairman Carl Jansen Jr. delivered a letter to the search committee that outlined three key attributes members of the public would like to see in the next general manager: integrity, leadership and communications ability.[[In-content Ad]]
