The director of transit at City Utilities of Springfield is now heading the board of a state advocacy organization for transportation providers.
Matt Crawford, a CU employee for more than two decades, was elected as Missouri Public Transit Association board president during the organization's Midwest Transit Conference held Sept. 3-5 in Kansas City, according to a news release. The MPTA represents 30 public and specialized transportation providers throughout Missouri.
“Matt represents the only medium urban provider in the state and is acutely aware of challenges facing both urban areas and the rural providers,” said Kimberly Cella, executive director of the MPTA, in the release. “His expertise will be critical as we move through these challenging times at the state level with regards to transit investment."
Crawford is serving a one-year term as board president. A member of the MPTA board since 2019, he previously held the secretary and vice president roles.
At CU, Crawford was named to his director of transit role in 2018, and past roles include transportation planner and customer service representative.
