The executive committee of the Board of Public Utilities on Dec. 7 selected a search committee charged with oversight of the replacement of City Utilities General Manager John Twitty.
Twitty announced last week he will retire in June, leaving speculation as to the board's move on a search for his predecessor.
The executive committee selected the following board members for the general manager search committee:
- Chairman Patrick Platter of Neale & Newman;
- Vice Chairman Tom Rankin of Sperry Van Ness/Rankin Company LLC;
- Secretary Mike Peters of St. John's Health System;
- Assistant Secretary Tom Finnie, retired;
- Former Chairwoman Lisa Officer of Officer CPA Firm LLC; and
- Former chairman Mark McNay of SMC Packing Group.
The search committee expects to hold its first meeting the week of Dec. 13.
CU Communications Manager Joel Alexander said during the committee's first meeting, it will evaluate initial steps in Twitty's succession, including the committee's timeline and whether or not it will hire a consultant.
"There's nothing really set in stone yet," Alexander said.
The board hired Colorado-based consultant Mycoff, Fry & Prouse LLC in 2001 to select Twitty as successor for then General Manager Robert Roundtree, Alexander said.
Twitty, 57, oversees a staff of more than 1,000 employees.
He currently has an annual salary of $377,322, along with five weeks of vacation time and a monthly vehicle allowance of $500.
Twitty's retirement will be covered by the Missouri Local Government Employee Retirement System. It is unknown what kind of retirement package Twitty might receive, as employees typically make decisions just prior to retirement that can affect the amount of benefit, according to a news release.
The general manager is covered by the same retirement plan as all other CU employees.
