The Association for Women in Communications national board of directors selected City Utilities of Springfield administrator Mitzie Zerr to chair the 2,000-member organization.
Formerly national treasurer for the communications networking group, Zerr was elected last month to lead the board through December, filling the remainder of the term left vacant by Maria Henneberry, an entrepreneur in Illinois who stepped down for family reasons. Succeeding Zerr as treasurer is Springfieldian Jill Randolph, director of administrative services for the Greene County Juvenile Office, according to a news release.
Zerr, CU's administrator of business retention and expansion, has worked for the public utility since 1982.
"I appreciate the board's confidence in my ability to lead AWC," Zerr said in the release. "We are developing a new strategic direction, and I am excited to work with the other board members to create new options and opportunities for the organization, one that has been a voice for women, not only in communications, but in the workforce for more than a century."
Zerr and Randolph also serve on the local chapter of AWC.[[In-content Ad]]
