Crown Center hotels have concerns about GOP convention in KC

Two of the largest hotels in Kansas City’s Crown Center district may not hold back some 1,500 rooms for the 2016 Republican National Convention, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.

Bill Lucas, president of the Crown Center Redevelopment Corp., said he’s not jazzed about setting aside space at two of downtown Kansas City’s largest hotels, the Westin Crown Center and the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center. Lucas, who said he has reviewed the minimum requirements laid out by the party’s commission to secure the convention, told the journal he thinks the lack of set dates for the convention is ridiculous.

Summer is a good time for hotels, and he’s worried about missing out on business to meet a commitment to the party or absorbing the cost to move other groups or visitors to other hotels in the area.
