Crowdfunding culls more than $1M for Ferguson-related causes

Posted online
While President Barack Obama has asked Congress for some $260 million to shore up security in Ferguson, crowdfunding campaigns have collected their first $1 million.

The funds, raised on such websites as GoFundMe.com and IndieGoGo.com, are for various causes – to help local businesses recover damages to the protesters contesting the grand jury's decision, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

On GoFundMe, for instance, two campaigns for Ferguson projects have raised $479,760 from over 13,000 donors. Also, the Ferguson Defense Fund on KickStarter.com has generated over $100,000 to help protesters cover their jail or bail fees.
