For more than half a century, Council of Churches of the Ozarks served as a trusted resource and compassionate presence in the lives of thousands across our region. But today, as the needs of our community have evolved, so too has its name—and its vision.
Meet Crosslines Community OutreachMore than just a new name, Crosslines represents a bold, clear mission: to stand at the crossroads of compassion and need, offering direct relief and long-term hope to individuals and families across Southwest Missouri. Whether it’s food on the table, a safe night’s rest, or diapers for a newborn, Crosslines is where help meets heart.
A Fresh Name. A Familiar Promise
The new name reflects what many in the community already knew—Crosslines is often the first place people turn to in crisis. It’s the pantry shelf stocked with dignity. It’s the housing assistance that keeps a family off the street. It’s the only overnight emergency shelter for women within 250 miles. And it’s the unwavering commitment to serve, no matter how hard things get.
“This isn’t just a rebrand,” says CEO Jaimie Trussell. “It’s a re-commitment to being exactly where our community needs us—at the intersection of immediate help and lasting change. We are continuing the mission first outlined by our founder Rev. Dr. Dorsey Levell – to demonstrate what Christ’s command to “love one another” could look like if the lines that separate us were crossed.”
Every Day, Every Need
Crosslines Community Outreach supports over 80,000 neighbors annually, through programs that provide:
•Food, clothing, and essentials through the region’s largest choice pantry and the Ambassadors for Children clothing closet
•Diapers and hygiene products for families struggling with inflation and limited income
•Overnight shelter and wraparound care for women experiencing homelessness
•Case Management that keeps families housed and hopeful, headed toward self-sufficiency
•Math and Reading support for at risk children grades K-3
•Holiday support, back-to-school help, transportation, and so much more
These services don’t just offer relief. They offer respect. Guests shop in a grocery-style pantry, kids in foster care select clothes that fit their style and needs, families who are ready to work towards a better future are guided along the path to get there, and everyone finds judgment-free help when they need it most.
Why It Matters
SW Missouri continues to suffer a high poverty rate with many of our neighbors regularly experiencing food insecurity. The cost of basic goods continues to climb, and the most vulnerable—seniors, single parents and low-income families—are bearing the brunt.
CCO doesn’t provide handouts. They offer a hand up, rooted in dignity and driven by community support.
How You Can Help
Your support—whether through volunteering, donating, or partnering—fuels this mission. As CCO enters this new chapter, the organization is calling on local individuals, churches, businesses, and civic groups to step into the story.
“This isn’t about one organization,” says VP of Programs, Wes Buchholz. “It’s about all of us, working together to create community. We are not only #BetterTogether, we are powerless apart.”
