State Treasurer Sarah Steelman on Jan. 12 presents the plan for the Legacy Initiative, which would provide assistance to Missouri families saving for their children’s education through the Missourians Saving for Tuition program. Bill cosponsors state Sens. Gary Nodler and Gayle Kingery filed the legislation Jan. 11, which was in Senate committee as of Jan. 25. Steelman said the fund will initially generate about $50 million, with the interest earned each year going to assistance for MOST participants in the form of matching grants to low- and middle-income families.
