A Highlandville-based certified public accounting business is on the verge of expanding to the Queen City.
My CPA Guy owner Nathan Ziegler, who started the company as a home-based venture in 2019, said a Nov. 4 launch is planned for the new Springfield location at 1661 W. Elfindale St. The office will fill 2,736 square feet in space formerly occupied by Vision Rehabilitation Center of the Ozarks, Ziegler said, adding he purchased the building earlier this year from the nonprofit. He estimated a $630,000 investment for the Springfield location, including the building’s purchase and renovation, which added new flooring, lighting and a roof.
“We’re short on office space,” Ziegler said of his 5,600-square-foot Highlandville office, which will remain in operation. “I wanted to get more people here and offer a new location so we can reach more clients.”
Ziegler earned his master’s in accountancy from Missouri State University in 2016, according to his LinkedIn page. He previously worked for nearly a decade in accounting at City Utilities of Springfield before turning his full-time professional attention in 2021 to My CPA Guy. He said he opened the 3499 State Highway EE office in Highlandville in 2022. The business is registered with the secretary of state’s office as myCPAguy LLC.
“We focus on helping small-business owners, but we’re also a tax preparation firm,” he said, noting the company is completing an average of roughly 3,000 tax returns a year. “We’ll do any individual tax return for anybody, but our specialty is just providing tax, payroll and accounting for small businesses.”
When the Springfield office is fully staffed, it will have seven employees, Ziegler said, adding he now is in hiring mode.
“I’m hiring for a vice president to run that location, and they will be a CPA,” he said, noting his offices will be run by a CPA and the tax preparers are all going to be federally licensed as enrolled agents or CPAs. “I’ll be primarily in Springfield for the first year or two while I’m getting it running because I have a vice president (in Highlandville).”
