The garden will be on the roof of the center’s first floor, facing east and overlooking Burrell Lake. It will be accessible from the center’s second floor, community room and Hope and Healing Place lobby.
Garden features will include potted flowers and trees, benches and water elements.
“Patients are often at the center for a number of hours, and having a garden for them to relax and unwind in is something we’re confident will impact outcomes and enhance the care they are receiving,” Hulston Cancer Center Administrative Director June Johnson said in a news release this afternoon.
About $57,405 has been raised for the garden, in addition to an initial gift of $50,000, according to Lisa Alexander, president of the CoxHealth Foundation. Officials hope to reach $190,000 by September.
Alexander said there is no construction timeline set yet, but bids for the project will likely go out when fund-raising reaches about $150,000.
