CoxHealth promotes trio of leaders

Posted online

CoxHealth announced the promotion of three leaders, including the naming of a new chief operating officer.

Amanda Hedgpeth, Beth Polivka and Dr. Shawn Usery are slated to take on expanded roles starting Jan. 1, according to a news release.

Hedgpeth, a nearly 17-year employee of CoxHealth who currently is president of the health care system’s Springfield hospitals, is taking on the COO role. In that position, she'll succeed Max Buetow, who became president and CEO earlier this year.

“I couldn’t be more excited to see Amanda step into this important position,” Buetow said in the release. “Her operational and financial expertise are a great complement to the passion she has for serving our patients and colleagues.”

As COO, Hedgpeth will report to Buetow, oversee systemwide hospital operations and continue to lead strategic planning efforts.

Polivka, who last year was named chief nursing officer, is being promoted to vice president and system chief nursing officer, according to the release.

A 20-year employee of CoxHealth, she will report to Hedgpeth and oversee nursing practices and functions across the organization.

Usery is slated to take on the role of senior vice president and system chief medical officer, according to the release. He's currently vice president and chief medical officer, a position he took on in 2021.

Usery, a CoxHealth employee since 2008, also will report to Hedgpeth and will lead medical staff activities, quality, safety and accreditation for the health care system.

CoxHealth will seek to hire a new president of Springfield hospitals and a new vice president of nursing over Springfield hospitals, according to the release.
