CoxHealth's pediatric partnership with St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Washington University Medicine in St. Louis has named a chief medical officer.

Dr. Matthew N. Alder was tapped to become the inaugural CMO and pediatrician-in-chief of St. Louis Children’s at CoxHealth, according to a news release. Alder previously served as an attending physician in pediatric critical care medicine at Cox South.

“Dr. Alder brings broad experience in pediatric critical care medicine across diverse intensive care unit settings and care teams to his new role, where he also will coordinate and direct strategic initiatives for pediatric specialty care,” said Dr. Paul Scheel Jr., vice chancellor for clinical affairs at WashU Medicine, CEO of WashU Medicine Physicians and president of WashU Medicine's physician provider organization with BJC HealthCare, in the release.

In his new role, Alder oversees newly added pediatric inpatient care services that started March 1 at Cox South. He'll also help lead the 133,000-square-foot St. Louis Children’s at CoxHealth Specialty Care Center that's under construction on East Primrose Street.

Alder earned his medical degree and a doctor of philosophy in immunology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed his residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, according to the release.
