CoxHealth opens new $10M unit

CoxHealth has a new cardiovascular unit in place at its south Springfield hospital.

Spokesperson Kaitlyn McConnell said J.E. Dunn Construction Co. served as general contractor for the $10 million project on Cox South's fourth floor.

“We have seen the need for cardiovascular services grow exponentially in recent months, leading us to decide now was the time to construct this unit,” said Becky Watts, administrative director of cardiovascular services at CoxHealth, in a news release. “We believe that this space will greatly benefit our patients and allow even more people to be treated in a timely manner.”

The 23,300-square-foot unit comprises space for pre- and post-procedural care for patients undergoing cardiac and electrophysiology procedures. Officials say patients can recover in the unit during short stays, and additionally, there's more space for echocardiograms and stress tests.

J.E. Dunn has served as general contractor for CoxHealth on several projects in recent months. The Kansas City-based firm was responsible for the health care system's new COVID-19 unit, and other projects include a CoxHealth hospital and clinic in Monett and Nixa, respectively. The Monett and Nixa projects have a combined value of $52 million.
