CoxHealth and Mercy Hospital Springfield are ranked among the top 10 hospitals in Missouri by U.S. News & World Report.
CoxHealth ranked seventh in
Missouri, followed by Mercy Hospital Springfield at No. 10. The Mercy health system based in St. Louis garnered the No. 2 rank on the list, which is part of an overall annual listing of the best hospital's nationwide. Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis was the top ranked hospital in Missouri.
In southwest Missouri, CoxHealth, Mercy Hospital Springfield and Freeman Hospital of Joplin were named the best regional hospitals. Ratings are based on hospital performance and resources, as well as high results in select speciality categories.
CoxHealth was noted for as high-performing in gastroenterology and surgery, gynecology, nephrology and pulmonology. Mercy pulled in high ranks for gynecology and pulmonology.
“This is a wonderful national recognition of the care and compassion provided by our physicians and staff. We are flattered to be included in what has become the gold-star recognition of hospital quality," CoxHealth President and CEO Steve Edwards said in a news release.
Mercy Hospital Springfield President Dr. Rob Steele echoed appreciation of the hospital's staff.
“These rankings are a reflection of the exceptional care we strive to give our patients every day," he said in a separate release. "We are so proud of the expertise and the compassion of our co-workers."
