According to a news release, the auxiliary’s 2007 appropriations are:
• $600 to the 900 East medical/surgical unit for a pulse-oxygen machine;
• $1,000 to acute care for the material, flax seed, thread and bags for 1,000 eye pillows;
• $100 to cardiac rehabilitation for bubbles to help teach patients how to breathe properly;
• $500 to cardiopulmonary rehabilitation for office supplies to be used by the Shortwinds support group;
• $2,000 to case management for one-night hotel stays for patients who need them;
• $32,192 to Children’s Miracle Network for its child life program;
• $40,000 to CMN for its CARE Mobile;
• $13,000 to CMN for its shaken-baby syndrome program;
• $66,000 to Cox College of Nursing and School of Medical Technology for nursing and med-tech student scholarships;
• $5,000 to CoxHealth Foundation for two benches in the Hulston Cancer Center’s healing garden;
• $1,000 to inpatient rehabilitation for educational materials about traumatic brain injury;
• $1,275 to the Martin Center for post-op pillows for heart patients;
• $22,000 to the neonatal intensive care unit for a simulator and fetal monitoring simulator;
• $200 to pre-admission for a portable DVD player for educational videos;
• $1,000 to pre-admission, in the form of 50 $20 gas vouchers for patients in need who travel more than 60 miles for care;
• $253 to psychological services for six operations manuals for the critical incident stress management team;
• $71,000 to radiology for a bone densitometer machine to assist in the diagnosis and monitoring of osteoporosis at Cox North;
• $635 to rehab therapy and skilled nursing for Wii music and party bundle games;
• $1,000 to trauma services for car seats for children leaving the emergency room after an accident;
• $250 to trauma services for an educational brochure about spinal and traumatic brain injuries;
• $650 to trauma services for activity books to help children learn about trauma prevention and safety;
• $2,500 to volunteer services for student-volunteer scholarships and scholarships for Medical Explorers who plan to enter the medical field;
• $500 to volunteer services for a director’s discretionary fund;
• $1,000 to volunteer services to supplement uniform costs for those who cannot afford them;
• $2,480 to the women’s and newborn care unit for a Masimo Rad-7 oximeter and docking station to measure the oxygen in infants’ blood.
Established in 1949, the CoxHealth auxiliary raises money though fundraising projects, support from auxiliary members, CoxHealth employees and community and business partners, and proceeds from hospital gift shops and the CoxHealth coffee bar. [[In-content Ad]]
