Cox Medical Group promotes 4 leaders amid growth

Posted online

CoxHealth subsidiary Cox Medical Group has promoted four high-level leaders during a period of growth.

Brock Shamel was named senior vice president of operations, and CMG appointed Ellen Hammock as vice president of operations, Bryan Williams as vice president of operations and Andrea Elliott as vice president of finance, according to a news release.

CMG, which oversees CoxHealth’s physicians and clinics, has recorded revenue growth that's nearly doubled over the past four years, officials say.

With that growth in mind, CMG's changes are part of the launch of a new CoxHealth operating model that organizes the health care system around key service lines such as cardiovascular services, orthopedics and primary care, with the goal of increasing efficiencies, according to the release. CMG comprises some 800 providers at more than 80 clinics and in CoxHealth's hospitals.

“With this rate of growth, we know we need to have the right support structure to optimize the way we deliver care," said Dr. Tim Jones, president of CMG, in the release. “Organizing care under service lines allows patients to navigate the system in a more seamless, streamlined process.

"The new model allows physicians to direct and lead the evolution of how we deliver care, and to optimize coordination of care for every patient.”

Shamel, a CoxHealth employee since 2010, most recently served as vice president of CMG. Hammock was promoted from her previous position as vice president of provider services for CMG, and Williams most recently served as administrative director for neurosciences. Elliott was promoted from administrative director of compensation and finance for CMG.
