Cox College names new president

Posted online
Cox College of Nursing and Health Sciences has named its next president, ending an eight-month search to fill the position vacated when former president DeLois Weekes was forced to resign.

Anne Liners Brett, executive dean of health sciences and public services at Moraine Park Technical College in West Bend, Wis., will take over at Cox College July 30. A local search committee recommended Brett to the college’s Board of Trustees after interviewing a panel of finalists identified in a nationwide search.

Karen Hazen has served as interim president since September. Weekes was forced to resign Sept. 6 after the board found problems with general procedures and Weekes’ inability to handle the school’s growth, officials said at the time.

Brett comes to Cox College with 25 years of experience in health education and administration. She has been with Moraine Park since 1982 and came into her current role in 2005. At the Wisconsin school, she oversees three academic deans and 72 full-time faculty members, 18 of whom operate full-time in the nursing program.

Brett has an undergraduate degree in nursing from the College of Saint Teresa in Minnesota, a master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, another master’s degree in nursing administration from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh and a doctorate in nursing from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.

Cox College has about 550 students and 85 faculty and staff members. It offers accredited degree programs for Associate of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing, as well as health science certificate programs in medical transcription and medical coding.

CoxHealth is in the midst of a $55 million redevelopment project that includes new buildings for Cox College.
