Cox Health Systems has chosen Creative HealthCare Systems and Informix Corporation to create a patient information network for its recent acquisition of Columbia Hospitals in Springfield.
"One of the many things Cox wants to provide to the medical personnel at these recently acquired facilities is simultaneous access to current and integrated patient information," said Ron Prenger, vice president of support services at Cox, in a release.
The network will use Informix's relational database technology and Creative Healthcare Systems' MedGenix software. The applications include accounts receivable, general ledger, accounts payable, medical records and a master patient index.
Patient financial and demographic information will be collected in the Informix database to eliminate data redundancy and create a centralized patient information repository for comparative reporting and trend analysis, according to the release.
The client-server network will use a Sun Enterprise-450 server and more than 30 personal computer clients with T1 network connections.
"We continue to use Informix technology as the foundation for our MedGenix solution because it provides the stability and scalability necessary for today's
expanding health systems," said Steve Everest, president and CEO of Crea-
tive Healthcare Systems, in the news release.
"Caregivers are looking for technology that will connect and support an entire enterprise without requiring an enterprise-size staff," he added.
Cox had previously used a similar installation in other network projects.
Springfield-based Creative Healthcare Systems was begun in 1992. The company serves community hospitals across the country with its flagship product, MedGenix.
Informix Corporation, based in Menlo Park, Calif., is a publicly traded company that provides database products around the world.
