Court rejects Notre Dame's request to skip birth control part of ACA

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last week the University of Notre Dame cannot temporarily be exempted from a provision in the Affordable Care Act that requires the Catholic school’s insurance providers to cover the costs of contraceptives for students and staff.

Notre Dame officials contend the provision forces the school to violate its Catholic doctrine, according to The Associated Press.

The school, which has sued over the provision, isn’t completely rebuked by the court’s decision. The ruling prohibits the university to opt out of the provision as its lawsuit makes its way through the court.
