Court orders refunds in lottery scam

Posted online
A court-approved agreement with Attorney General Jay Nixon ordered a Buffalo, N.Y., company to refund Missourians for their purchase of what the company claimed were winning lottery numbers.

Multi-Plays of America will pay at least eight Missouri consumers between $118 and $671 each, for a total of $2,330. The company also is ordered to cease business in Missouri and pay $2,000 to the Missouri Merchandising Practices Revolving Fund.

According to the company’s Web site, customers can pay $149 and receive a month’s worth of winning lottery numbers by e-mail.

“The selection of numbers by the Missouri Lottery is a random process, and anyone who tells you they can predict what numbers will come up is purely guessing,” Nixon said in a news release.

Nixon’s office asks consumers who purchased numbers to contact the company at 1-888-252-0877 and request refunds.
