County to hold annual tax sale

Posted online
Some Greene County properties will likely be sold for pennies on the dollar Aug. 28. Beginning at 8 a.m. that day in room 212 of the Greene County Courthouse, 940 Boonville Ave., the county will hold its annual sale of properties with delinquent tax bills.

Missouri Revised Statute 140.150 gives counties the ability to sell properties with unpaid property taxes to cover delinquent tax bills.

Property owners have until the day of the sale to pay the taxes and have their properties removed from the auction. There were nearly 200 properties on the list published in July, but it will likely shrink by Aug. 28.

In a typical year, about 50 properties go to auction, according to the collector’s office Web site.

Even after the auction, however, owners still have a year to redeem their property by paying the tax bill plus an additional 10 percent, which would go to the auction buyer.

The sale begins at 10 a.m. Aug. 28 in room 212 of the Greene County Courthouse, 940 Boonville Ave. Bidders must register for the auction; registration begins at 8 a.m. on Aug. 28. Bidders must bring a notarized copy of the bidder affidavit, which is available on the collector’s Web site at www.greenecountymo.org.[[In-content Ad]]
