The county opened three sites for residents to dispose of debris in early February. The Greene County Highway Department has maintained the sites, piling and burning hundreds of loads of brush and tree limbs.
The site near Willard closed March 25, and activity at the remaining two sites – Fair Grove and Phenix Quarry – has slowed considerably in the last weeks, according to a county news release.
The remaining sites will be open during daylight hours through Sunday, when they will close for good.
The Fair Grove site is at a future city park site, west of the intersection of Main and Walnut streets. To get there, head east from the intersection of U.S. Highway 65 and State Highway 125, then turn south on Main Street.
The Phenix Quarry site is near Farm Roads 43 and 44.
There is no charge for dropping off debris.
After Sunday, county residents can use Springfield’s Yardwaste Recycling Center, off Farm Road 164 near the Southwest Wastewater Treatment Plant. Residents living outside city limits are charged a small fee for dropping off debris, and there are some limits on debris size.
For more information or directions to the center, the city’s recycling hotline is (417) 864-1904.[[In-content Ad]]
