County assessor reminds residents of deadline

Posted online
Greene County Assessor Rick Kessinger is reminding county residents that March 1 is the deadline for returning this year's personal property and business assessment lists.

Missouri law requires all Greene County residents and business owners to declare all taxable personal and business property they own as of Jan. 1 to the assessor's office. Taxable items include motor vehicles, boats, trailers, livestock, farm machinery and business-related equipment, according to an assessor's office news release.

The lists are what the county will use to compute 2010 personal and business property tax bills, which will be sent out in November.

County residents should have received their lists in early January, and those lists must be returned to the assessor's office by the deadline to avoid late penalties of up to $100. The forms must also be signed, even if there are no changes to the list from the previous year.

“Please read the oath printed on the reverse side of the form, even if you have signed next to the ‘No Changes’ box,” Kessinger said in the release. “This statement is important and it applies whether the form is signed on the front or back.”

Those who didn't receive assessment lists should call the assessor's office at (417) 868-4195 or (417) 868-4101, or visit the office in person. The office is in the Greene County Historic Courthouse, 940 Boonville Ave., and is open weekdays from 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
