Council to consider city manager search committee

Posted online
Springfield City Council tonight will consider a list of 21 recommended members for a search committee to help find Springfield’s next city manager.

Nearly 70 citizens applied for the committee. Those that will be recommended to council are: David Agee, Ann Marie Baker, Roseann Bentley, Scott Christiansen, Kevin Clingan, Brian Fogle, Robert Fulp, Carolyn Gerdes, Dawn Hiles, Bob Horton, Ken McClure, Stephanie Montgomery, Wes Pratt, Nancy Riggs, David Roling, Tim Rosenbury, Matt Scheihing, Karen Shannon, Jack Stack, Thomas Strong and Greg Wheelen.

The committee will help conduct the search to replace City Manager Bob Cumley, who in October said he would retire June 1. The city’s human resources and law departments also are developing a request for proposal for a search firm to assist the committee.

In addition to its citizen members, the committee will include the full council as ex-officio members. City staff liaisons being recommended are Deputy City Manager Evelyn Honea, Human Resources Director Sheila Maerz and Economic Development Director Mary Lilly Smith.

Committee organizer Mayor Pro Tem Gary Deaver hopes to have an introductory meeting before Jan. 1.
