Council of Churches Director Hockensmith retiring

Posted online
Dr. David Hockensmith, executive director of the Council of Churches of the Ozarks, has announced he will retire because of chronic health concerns.

Hockensmith has led the nonprofit organization for eight years.

"Under his leadership, we have continued to improve the quality of life for 'the least of these,' expanding our services to children with disabilities, special needs adults and vulnerable seniors, and have become more involved in providing for the well-being of abused and neglected children," said Neil Stenger, president of the organization's board of directors, in a news release.

Under Hockensmith's direction, Council of Churches was named Charitable Organization of the Year in 2007 at Springfield Business Journal's Economic Impact Awards.

Rev. Mark Struckhoff, director of advancement, said the council is working with Hockensmith to determine his last day. Struckhoff will serve as interim director until a replacement is named.

Council of Churches is a collaborative effort among Springfield area congregations and affiliate organizations. The nonprofit celebrates its 40th anniversary Oct. 18.[[In-content Ad]]
