The city’s budget for the coming fiscal year – July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008 – was on the Springfield City Council agenda Monday night.
Members of the public interested in a breakdown of proposed budget allocations by department are invited to attend the council’s budget workshop 4–6 p.m. this afternoon on the fourth floor of the Busch Municipal Building, 840 Boonville Avenue. A second hearing, if needed, will be held at the same time Wednesday.
The $255.1 million budget has $39.3 million in special revenue funds, including $17.4 million for the Springfield-Greene County Parks Department from the 1/4-cent parks sales tax, half of which was renewed by voters in August.
Another $17.2 million is marked for capital projects; $17.3 million will go to debt service; $22.3 million is set for the Springfield Police Department; and $15.5 million is budgeted for the Springfield Fire Department.
Most of the city’s anticipated revenue will come from taxes – $122.1 million – and charges and fees – $57.3 million.
