Attendees discussed a number of issues, from basic code enforcement and how to pass an ordinance, to hot topics, such as stagnant revenues and the status of litigation regarding cell phone taxes.
“The conference serves a number of purposes,” said Gary Markenson, executive director of the Missouri Municipal League, which was created in 1934 as an organization for cities, towns and villages across the state to promote closer relations.
Markenson said the conference educates city officials, covers key topics, adopts new policies and elects new officers for the organization.
The league has selected Springfield as host of the 2008 conference, scheduled for Sept. 7–10 at University Plaza Convention Center.
