In the Jan. 7 story, “Adding up the miles for neurofibromatosis,” Children’s Tumor Foundation Team Director Steve Kendra said cholesterol-reducing drug Lovastatin reverses learning disabilities brought on by NF. Lovastatin has reversed learning disabilities in mice with NF but, as yet, is still in safety trials in humans. There is no concrete data yet as to the drug’s effectiveness in reversing learning disabilities in humans.
