The story “New LASIK procedure available” in SBJ’s Jan. 7 issue stated that Mattax Neu Prater Eye Center brought the IntraLASIK vision correction technique to Springfield in spring 2007. The IntraLASIK procedure has been available in Springfield for at least three years. Missouri Eye Institute and TLC Laser Eye Centers are among the other facilities offering the procedure.

In the Jan. 7 story, “Adding up the miles for neurofibromatosis,” Children’s Tumor Foundation Team Director Steve Kendra said cholesterol-reducing drug Lovastatin reverses learning disabilities brought on by NF. Lovastatin has reversed learning disabilities in mice with NF but, as yet, is still in safety trials in humans. There is no concrete data yet as to the drug’s effectiveness in reversing learning disabilities in humans.[[In-content Ad]]
