Copyright on 'Happy Birthday' song thrown out

A federal judge ruled yesterday that Warner/Chappell Music's claim to the 120-year-old "Happy Birthday" song wasn't legal.

The move frees the song from copyright.

The ruling comes after a lawsuit challenged Warner/Chappell's attempt to fine a group of filmmakers $1,500 for using the song.
