Convoy’s U.S. Disaster Response Director Kary Kingsland on Monday presented on a panel called “Partnerships in Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery: The Role of Faith-based and Community Organizations in Building Resilient Communities,” according to a Convoy news release. The panel was part of the White House Compassion in Action Roundtable on Disaster Preparation and Response.
Kingsland discussed Convoy’s Hope Begins Here initiative, which focuses on preparing families, businesses and faith-based organizations for disasters. The pilot program recently completed in Springfield will be a model for its nationwide rollout.
Convoy International Director Kenton Moody also will be a presenter at a White House conference on disaster relief and preparedness May 29–30 in New Orleans, the release said.
Convoy partners with governments, businesses, civic groups and churches to build community outreach. Convoy personnel currently are on the scene in Myanmar, helping victims of a recent cyclone that has devastated the Asian country.
