Convoy of Hope to give $1M to Joplin tornado victims

Posted online
During the Jan. 13 season finale of ABC's reality TV show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," which featured a weeklong Joplin construction project, Convoy of Hope President Hal Donaldson announced that the Springfield nonprofit would give $1 million to aid Joplin tornado victims.

The contribution, which establishes the Extreme Hope fund, is earmarked to help homeowners with reconstruction costs.

“These funds will help people who have essentially fallen through the cracks,” said Jeff Nene, public relations officer for Convoy of Hope, in a news release. “The difference between insurance proceeds, Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance and actual reconstruction costs has left many families in the red."

Those hoping to receive financial assistance through the Extreme Hope fund can call (417) 625-9192.

According to the release, Convoy of Hope donated 2.6 million pounds of food, water and supplies to the Joplin community in the months following the May 22 EF-5 tornado.[[In-content Ad]]
