Convoy of Hope yesterday sent teams and supplies to the Eastern Seaboard to aid with Hurricane Sandy response efforts.
The Springfield nonprofit has sent two rapid response teams, 80,000 pounds of emergency supplies and a debris removal trailer into the New Jersey area, where the organization is focusing relief efforts.
“The disaster area is extremely large,” Convoy of Hope spokesman Jeff Nene said in the release. “We are starting in New Jersey because the number of people without power is so significant and we can have an immediate impact.”
According to The Weather Channel, about 6 million customers were without power this morning due to the storm. That number peaked at more than 8 million yesterday. As of late Tuesday, 45 people in the mainland U.S. and Puerto Rico and 69 people in the Caribbean were reported dead due to the hurricane, which has early damage estimates of at least $10 billion, according to
