Convoy of Hope responds to Hurricane Issac

Posted online
Springfield nonprofit Convoy of Hope has implemented response efforts for Hurricane Isaac, a storm officials are calling a large flood threat.

Convoy of Hope has deployed its disaster response teams to the northern Gulf Coast.

“We have a mobile command center and assessment teams in the area to report any needs that may occur after the storm moves through,” said Karen Benson, global disaster response director for Convoy of Hope, in a news release. “Our plan is to be ahead of any developing situation.”

A truck with supplies and a debris trailer have been sent to the area, and additional trucks loaded with supplies wait in Convoy of Hope's Springfield warehouse in case they are needed.

According to the Weather Channel, Hurricane Isaac, which developed from a tropical storm, is currently at Category 1. By comparison, Hurricane Katrina, a heavily destructive 2005 storm, was classified as Category 5 when it hit the coast.[[In-content Ad]]
