Convoy of Hope gets Colbert bump

Posted online

During his show last week, Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert encouraged donations to Springfield nonprofit Convoy of Hope to support Philippines typhoon relief.

The host of the Colbert Report aimed to beat donations of $100,000 pledged by China. At 2:47 p.m., approximately 16 hours after the show aired on Thursday night, Convoy of Hope said it eclipsed Colbert’s $100,000 goal. As of 4:30 p.m., it was up to $108,320 in donations, according to the News-Leader.

“We received a call from the Colbert team on Wednesday,” spokesperson Jeff Roman said in an email. “Their staff researched organizations responding to the Philippines and after completing their research, they chose Convoy of Hope as the organization they wanted to support and share with their viewers.”

China, however, has said it will also provide $1.4 million in relief supplies.
