Contentious Texas GOP race escalates

A Republican runoff for Texas lieutenant governor, which appears to be among the nastiest in the country, is getting worse.

The mudslinging is between David Dewhurst, who has held the position since 2003, and state Sen. Dan Patrick.

An already contentious race escalated this week when some of Patrick’s personal medical records – including caregiver notes from a psyciatric facility – were released to reporters. Following a round of attack ads, the records chronicle Patrick’s psychiatric hospital stays in 1982 and 1986 for severe depression.

One political science professor following the race said he couldn’t recall this level of negativity on personal issues before, according to Fox News.
